On my D6D when partly pull right steering clutch the cat makes a jerking motion not bad but you can feel it when fully engaged it does not do it works good, left hand side no problem. It is power shift.Any ideas thanks.
My guess would be warped steering clutch disks?
I would check the linkage adjustment and make sure all pins are free. This machine has lever brakes as well as pedal brakes. Failing that it might be something inside the valve (spool) that needs freeing up. Later Bob
Bob, I couldn't remember on the D's about the brakes, so it could be the brake band or the drum? I know they get glazed and sometimes out of round yeah?
linkage seems free and i forgot to mention it does jerk/shudder for a couple a seconds when i let go but if i lock it up and let go i don't feel anything tried in reverse also with partway cluthing but it does not do it just in forward motion. thanks guys for the advice.
Yair . . . Just a comment, no help to original poster. Steering clutches should be engaged or disengaged . . . over the past few years I have noticed a couple of operators who don't seem to know this. Partway clutching is poor practice, achieves nothing, wears and warps disks and could conceivably lead to symptoms as described. Cheers.
thanks for the info.Didn't no that.
Yair . . . jook24 . No worries mate, it is a perfectly understandable problem. With the various steering systems and hydros around on modern machinery some of the basic points of operating older machines are not getting passed along. One other thing to watch for on a conventional steering clutch tractor is "sling shotting" or one track losing traction and spinning when you pull the other clutch . . . it is very bad practice to let the pulled clutch reengage. Always best to flick it out of gear, release steering clutch and then slip back into gear. Cheers.
The D6D has hydraulic action on the steering clutch side, it is possible for the steering spool to be stuck some without brake activation, but this is easy to spot when you pull the other clutch control and things stop moving and the engine speed goes flying, I would try pressing lightly on the queer side brake peddle to see if its dancing about, if it is its possibly the brake mounting frame broken or the top pinion bearings knackered, the D6C's and the D6D's have the same steering control method the D6D has the brake also controlled by the same lever, I would also adjust both brake bands up to spec so you are starting off on the correct line, the steering clutch has no adjustment as soon as you pull the lever the cluch is set free, if things look good on the peddle dance its then time to look into oil leakage to the steering clutch slave cylinder? tctractors
thanks for all your answers great info. When your owner operatore you want to be carefull but i would run somebody elses same way i do mine.
Went out this mornin and did some testing.Pull the steering clutch locked it up and push lever back very little dance hard to tell ,tried foot pedals the machine bascily locks up on both sides not sure if that is right no noise from back end everything sounds normal altho i did back up pressed the brake peddel and trurned on a dime then went forward tried it and the cat comes to a stop under load.Pulled both levers back at same time and it stops under no load.So i think it might be the slave cylinder not releasing properly.I have had it now for 4 years when i bought it it 1300hrs. on cross shaft, bearings, seals, brakes i turned on about 1500hrs.With takeing it pretty easy on it.
