So you’re saying that the engine starts OK, correct.? If it does then it’s not likely to be the key switch. After the gauges complete their sweep when you first turn the key on, does the SERV CODE icon in the RH corner of the hourmeter window stay illuminated.?

Another question. When you turn on the key for the first time do the gauge needles sweep all the way to the maximum reading, or only half-way.?

The gauges sweep all the way and the service code stays on we put a new operator station wire harness on and fuse box . The mechanic working on it put a manual heat gauge in it for us . The dozer runs and operates fine but his cat computer says the ecm won’t counicate with his computer. Actually he used to work for cat and went on his own. Sometimes it will come on and everything works you think probably bad engine harness ? Or ecm

Follow Nige's suggestions. He will probably want to do some testing before any parts purchases. Your in good hands. He is a Caterpillar Systems Doctor! Simon C

Also the operator station wire harness was deteriorated under the cab nothing but bare wires he told us he was shocked it hadn’t burnt already

There is another way of communicating with the Monitor Panel to pull Diagnostic Codes. You need a Click Box, or if push comes to shove a couple of short pieces of automotive wire. You (and maybe also your mechanic) need to read all of this THREAD , but pay particular attention to Posts #50-52 on Page 3 where the instructions of how to McGyver something appear.
