D6R codes

Kelson Turner · 2019-12-29 18:39

Hi guys. New to the site. Anyways I have a d6r. 17,000hrs original everything it has been a great dozer. But I have some codes coming up and the cat has some problems. When shifting into reverse when hot it is a real sluggish shift and at the same time when it’s hot it’s very slow to back up. The codes are. 821f04 693f07 248f02 692f07 819f02

Post a Serial Number please. Also which ones from the list of Codes above are Active.? In other words which ones does the SERV CODE icon on the RH side of the window light up.? 17k hours and original.? As in nothing (eng, trans, converter) rebuilt yet.? It ought to be getting pretty tired by now with those hours on the major components.

I will check tomorrow on which one is active. No nothing has been done other then the hydraulic pump. 5ln00638

There may be more than one Active Code. Post a list of all the Active ones.

Another thought looking again at your particular symptoms that could be potentially pointing at either the torque converter or the transmission. How long is it since the transmission oil was last changed.? It might be an idea to change the oil & filter now. Smell the oil you drain, does it smell burned.? Is it clear and bright or dark/cloudy in appearance.? Also you should cut the old filter apart, squeeze a piece of the filter media in a vice and look in the bottom of the pleats for particles. Plenty of "how to" videos on youtube if you've never done it before. At the same time that the oil is drained pull the magnetic suction screen and check for the presence of particles. If you find anything significant post photos.

We changed the oil and pulled the suction screen off and every thing looked normal. Filter had nothing in it either.

Ended up being the modulation valves on the transmission. Replaced all 5 and good as new.

Good news that you fixed the issue that was causing your problems but I can't help thinking you're going to going back into all the major power train components before long. It may be that you replaced three solenoid valves out of the five for nothing based on the Codes you had. CID 693 relates to the 3rd speed clutch and CID 692 to the forward direction clutch. Either way if the transmission was being rebuilt it ought to be getting five new ones anyway, so that's one less expense for later.

Yes I figured we might as well change them all while being in there.

Wise move IMHO. I'd strongly advise you to start putting some coin aside, because I'm fairly sure you will be into some big $ for component rebuilding in a short space of time hours-wise. Obviously when that is time-wise will depend on how many hours/month it clocks up.
