this is a d6r series one with the 3306, when i pull fuel cap of it has a vacuum, anybody have a remedy until new cap gets here. need to keep moving dirt.
The most common cap I've seen has 2 Philips screws on the inside of the cap. Take out the screws then remove the breather filter off the top then remove the white check valve assembly. Now reinstall the breather filter and put the cap back on.
If it is the more or less standard Cat fuel cap with the lever you flip up and turn to release it is what Mobiltech says. Pictured below is a parts book picture, not very clear but you might be able to see it. For about $30. you can get the 9X2205 kit and repair it, I always kept a couple kits on hand and about once a year rebuilt them on the equipment at the quarry. If that is not the style of your cap post a picture or at the least a full S/N as there are a few pages of D6R's shown in SIS!
The part number is molded into every caterpillar fuel cap, whether it's plastic, resin, or diecast. Many of the older caps are being replaced with a newer part number that is supposed to give longer service life.
You already have one coming.. drill a VERY SMALL hole in it..Done. If sitting outside at nite, take a sandwich bag, open the cap, drape it over & close the cap.. it'll keep the rain out till the next day.. DONT FORGET to take the bag out BEFORE starting her up.. LOL.. I can SEE everybody sitting there cringing..LOL {what a DUMB-Azz} LOL
Sounds to me like someone is trying to drum up more pump repair work by encouraging someone to suck dirt into the fuel tank!
Post the number off the cap and I can see what SIS says. There was at least at one time a kit to convert the threaded on type to the lever actuated ones.
Don't see it mentioned in that article above but the "new Cap uses a 350-7735 kit to replace filter. Does not appear that the old 9X2205 has been replaced so it depends on which cap you have which kit you use!
or which "drill" you use..Lol
i ended up using the smallest drill bit in the drill index and just drilled a tiny hole in the check valve.just got home to check out what you guys said to do. so it looks like i will have some work for pump guy> LOL thanks for all your help on this one guys, i did not know they made replacement filter kits for these.
The dirt stays "in front " of the machine.. you'll be fine for afew days till the replacement arrives. & a coffee can over the cap when not in use, will keep you outa trouble..
