D6R LGP III replace winch for a ripper

Crooked Lakes · 2024-12-04 09:34

Is removing a winch and installing a ripper a viable process or is there to many additional costs and modifications. Most dozers in our area come from up north in the muskeg, so they is a lot of LGP with winches. Not what I’m looking for but might have to make do

I have seen rippers on lgp machines but 9 times out of 10 you don't need to rip in soft underfoot but you might need to get unstuck . Just saying

Or get someone else unstuck lol.

I’m not in soft ground, just a lot of lgp dozers around here.wasn’t sure if the conversion would be worth it or not

Did see an 850 J LT with 24” track and 12’ blade and ripper. Maybe that would be simpler

How many hours? A Deere is a hydrostat machine, they're good until they're not, then you scrap them. A D6 you swap a trans/torque in and good for another 15k hours.

8500 hrs and for what it’s worth they are not supposed to be hard hours. More of a clean up machine I gather

Supposed to be from your state

In the U.K. the D6 LGP is the common Tractor to see on a Site, putting a Ripper on the back upsets the LGP thing a good bit and will make working on steep slopes a hazard as the back end will keep fighting the slope, there is people that do have them fitted but it will limit your side slope ability.

Ok, I understand what you’re saying. The more people ya talk to the more you learn.

Well, some thoughs from someone that did same... We bought a D5H LGP, we wanted a STD or XL machine , but nothing came about. It had CAT pull bar, and PAT blade, 4 mts wide.... Trashed the pull bar and fitted a KOM D50 3 shank Ripper, that we found in a Yard. Shoes were 800mm wide, we just cut them 150mm each side and did not notice any issues. Blade was cut to 3.20mts, fitted with wings, its semi U now Next, we will cut off some lenght on the track frames and U frame, and give it a lower stance, LGP´s besides wide and long are also 150mm taller than STD, as soon as the time comes to repair track frames and equalizer bar.

Just some cutting and welding... In the long run a LGP machine size of a D6, is expected to had had a very nice life, pushing mud and sand, or something similar in swamp area... D6R, if fitted with a 3306 engine its undestructable, but i fear only series I and II came with it. The winch u remove it, and the shaft, and there´s a cover plate for it.
