You have too low of pressure from your trans pump. Get the pump pressure up and then it should stay in gear. The trans has a cyl and spring that will force the shifter to neutral when you shut down the engine. After start up and the trans pump pressure builds to 300 PSI or so the oil enters the cyl and compresses the spring allowing you to shift into all speeds. Later Bob

might check to see if you have any oil left in the trans at all..

yes the oil is right up just wondering if the pump might lose its prime or the cylinder and spring might be stuck?

Is there a way to check the transmission pressure? You say it's full of oil? - How does it look? Check the pump inlet screen. low pump pressure can sometimes be attributed to a clogged screen. If a oil pump cannot prime, I would think a pump rebuild is in order- they are self-priming.

the oil looks as good as the day I changed it if it was the pump i would have noticed something last time I used it

r75, you might try pulling the 9/16 plug on the top of the transmission pump and crank engine untill oil shows. If this works change pump shaft seal. Good luck Bob

Do the above ,should prime the pump and get it to work for now.Might run the trans a little over full helps.Sometimes if you get the machine on a steep side slope they will also less prime.Pumps probably getting a little weak.Might also check you suction hose to see if it is tight,if it sucks air from being losse will loose prime. You may need to replace it also, might be getting hard and brittle.Good luck
