Need help on my cousins D7F old Army dozer track adjuster seals need replaced no master link
Is the track worn enough so that if you pushed the track adjuster right back the track could be walked sideways off the front idler.? That would give you the space to then pull the idler forward again and disassemble everything. Post a Serial Number to make parts identification easier. Ex-military 61G-something I would assume.?
Yes sir 6-1g309
If the tracks are out near the end of the adjuster you can push the idler all the way out and block it. Then take the 4 bolts out of the adjuster and pry it apart ,take the piston out and reseal it. Can we see some pictures of that track? Bad Bob
Be aware that the condition of the chrome surface on the retainer (18 in the parts diagram - P/No 2M-0125) and the replacement of the preformed packing (9 in the parts diagram - P/No 5H-8624) are critical areas to concentrate on. The chrome on the retainer wears off with trackframe vibration, and there are often grooves also gouged in the retainer chromed sealing surface. It is crucial that the chromed area of the retainer is in good condition, and the preformed packing be replaced, as this seal area prevents dirt from entering into the area behind it, where the adjuster piston lies. If you simply replace the seals on the adjuster piston, and do not replace or rechrome a worn retainer and preformed packing, dirt will rapidly enter the area behind it, and this dirt then destroys the new seals on the adjuster piston - leading to a need to replace the adjuster piston seals again, within a short time.
What does it normally cost to have a field guy come out and rebuild track adjuster on a D7F cat
Bullcrap. Bad Bob
That might be your opinion, I'm speaking from personal experience of owning and repairing D7F's, and the track adjusters on them. Please advise where I'm wrong.
Ok thanks
