We have a 2009 310SJ we picked up this winter real nice machine but it would not cool so we just basically changed the whole system, new compressor, new expansion valve, new dryer, cleaned the evaporator and condenser, and it will only cool around 20 degrees cooler then outside it does not seem cold like it should is the air that bad in these or do I still have something going on?
did you vacuum the system and did it hold? are the heater hoses hot? I'd say you have something wrong, but couldn't tell you what without a lot more info.
Yes we vacuumed the system and even took pinch off pliers and pinched the hoses off I forgot to mention gauges looked good
Never pinch off A/C hoses. That is extremely dangerous. When you say pressures looked good what were the readings? What are your pressures when the system is off? When you turn it on what do they read? Gauges on and A/C system will tell you everything. Assuming you recharged with the correct amount. The proper charge is very important with A/C. Adding more does not make it cool better. It is a closed system and is designed to work using the correct charge. Under charged and you risk it freezing up, over charged and it won't cool. Overcharged can also cause liquid to get into the compressor. Like liquid in the cylinder of an engine, liquid in a compressor will cause major damage. A/C depends on airflow. Make sure your radiator fan is moving enough air. Make sure the fan is pulling air through the condenser and not bypassing it. There are usually foam seals to make sure this happens. Can you get a temp reading of the evaporator? Not sure if this machine uses a blend door or a heater valve to control the temp of air being distributed. If it is a blend door system you need to make sure it is adjusted properly or you have the heat warming up the conditioned air. If it is a heater valve it could be stuck. Easiest way to tell if it is the heater core is to pinch off one of the heater hoses and see if the temp starts to drop.
I should of stated we pinched off the heater hoses not the a/c lines bc we thought the heater was mixing with the air. Done some testing With the engine off low 60, high 150 engine on a/c on low 22, high 195 engine on a/c off Low 91, high 130 evaporator temp was around 79 degrees
with the A/C off and engine off those pressures indicate a blockage. The pressures should equalize in 30 secs or so. Glad you pinched off heater hoses and not A/C hoses. Your 22 psi low side indicates you should have a very cold evaporator, about 25 deg F. Is the condenser and/or high side lines hot to the touch? 195 psi should be about 130 deg or so. Is this compressor a variable displacement design? Based on the low side pressure and the evap temp I would say you have zero flow. This could mean the compressor is at minimum displacement. Is the system all mechanical or does it have electric control of the compressor?
