difference "traditional excavator tracks versus blade runner excavator: hi, what difference would there be between the tracks of a traditional excavator which serve to make it move forward, backward and position it in the excavation position and then make it advance in the excavation face, compared to the "blade runner" excavator which would be a sort of tracked backhoe, in fact from what I have read they could push with the same power as a dozer buldozer in fact from what I understand the blade is not only used to cover small ditches and stabilize the machine during excavation but it could be as powerful as a bulldozer to climb and trace roads paving paths slopes and create terraces and leveling works, am I right? Next generation Blade Runner excavator introduced by Kobelco The ED160BR-7 is unique to Kobelco. The Blade Runner is a combination of a short radius excavator and a dozer, which allows two machines in one. www.equipmentjournal.com
That will be a poor dozer and that giant blade will be a nuisance when excavating . . .
IMHO the biggest difference is the rate of wear in the planetary hubs, travel motors and the rest of the track gear.
Saw a Next Gen Bladerunner at Conex. It seemed to be a stout built UC and the blade appeared to be well built. A machine like this serves 2 purposes mediocrely - excavator primarily and dozer secondarily. The machine has it's place in certain situations but it doesn't have a role in our operation. However I did see this Kobelco - Reminded me of a praying mantis. Designed to extract engines at junkyards.
Blade excavators are not a dozer and can never be, they aren't designed for that. Blade excavators are handy in smaller excavators, like 60 class and below, the type of machines that would be used by, say, plumbers to dig a trench to lay a water line or sewer pipe, then use the blade to backfill the trench, no need for a second machine for backfill. This is just one example. In larger excavators, 100 class and up, those machines are used for excavating and deep trenching. In those applications that blade is both not necessary and in the way. In the way for excavating and not necessary for trenching as there will be other machines on that site for backfill, like a dozer. All machines have their place.
I think could be useful for certain projects but I don't think for heavy digging. Would have see what contractors say after using one for a while. Might be good for clearing brush. Could push smaller piles out of the way.
This excavator is like 15 18 tonnage boobies, tons so for this class of excavator you would prefer a classic excavator without a dozer blade which might get in the way when traveling or when climbing steep slopes, did I understand correctly? Basically, the bulldozer blade does not replace the classic wheeled backhoe type bulldozer, retro excavator loader, have I understood the analysis and the concept of the question correctly?
