Zed ยท 2010-08-31 01:03

This is the first thread for me and not sure if it's going to work... but if it does... here's some pictures of some of our equipment in Borneo.

Hey Zed - G'day and selamat datang! I must admit those pictures remind me alot of of one KPC's operations at Sengata in East Kalimantan. Then again all rainforest and coal pits begin to look the same in Indo. Who cuts your cheques Zed - Theiss, KPC or a manufacturer?

  4. #4nickbowers2010-08-31 03:43

I think thiess is an Australian company, but not too sure

  5. #5Zed2010-08-31 04:33

Yes I work for Thiess, an Australian company, though on paper I work for Thiess Contractors Indonesia (TCI). Digga Dave you're right, I'm at Sengata, Melawan pit. 99.9% of workers are locals, I think 2000 all up here with TCI, and I'm one of 13 Expat Aussies here. We do 5 weeks on, 2 weeks off, flying back to Oz. TCI Equipment here: (Approx) 200 dump trucks, 50 dozers, 30 graders and 30 diggers/shovels. KPC owns the largest fleet of Liebherr 996's in the world, last count 19. They also run about 60 T282 dump trucks. They just put one into a high wall 2 days ago, wrecked it. Looks like operator fell asleep. We're mining coal, our contract is for 12 Mt of ROM coal per annum and 105 Million BCM of OB.

Nice pics. Which size of Hitachi are you running? Are those 5500s?

  9. #9bull2010-08-31 11:24

    Great pics, thanks.

Those are nice pictures. My impression is that you can pretty much do whatever you want to the land in Borneo, and operate how ever you want. The environmentalists haven't gone crazy there (yet) like they have in other places. Must make it a good place to do some heavy mining and earth moving, no?

  11. #11Ross2010-08-31 12:22

Ah well ... You might be suprised .. Out in Africa the EPA (<~ Not the US version) Has strict enviromental controls. No servicing of equipment in the pit. Strict rubbish rules etc .. Non of the equipment out here has Oil leaks .. I mean NO LEAKS! .. Unlike the Europe/North-America where the rule .. Out of site out of mind plays a part ..

Where has the L/H track gone on that Hitachi?

  13. #13Zed2010-08-31 22:21

Yes we have 5500's here, 3600's, 2500's, 1200's and lots of smaller machines down to 30 tonners. We have just about every manufacturer covered! Liebherr, O&K, Hitachi and Komatsu diggers. That RH120 shovel is the first one, serial number 120001, and was originally in Scotland. And yes we have a fleet ot TR100 trucks as well. Mining and Safety are about on Par with Oz, very strict, though environmental controls aren't as strict. That little digger threw a track right down the bottom where the pump is, and had to be moved before it went under water, as it was raining (p*ssing down). They were just moving it to a safe area.

  14. #14Ross2010-08-31 22:29

Yeah ... I've worked on that Shovel .. The Proto-Type. LAW mining then ATH have ran it .. Still thought it was up In Gods Country. Did the TR100's come from ATH as well? Still pretty good at ENVRO thou eh .. The machine's look to be in good keep ..

Looks like you don't want to sit and dig in one place for long or you will be stuck. Looks a bit wet there.
