Looking at buying a couple dump trucks with these motors in them, they are blue and look very European.... almost duetz-ish:cool2 the tags say they are set to 365 hp. with 8LL trans. I have never heard of, seen, or run one of these motors in anything... Just wondering if they are ok, or if they are a boat anchor. Thanks
Apparently they are like a Mercedes Benz OM 477 engine. http://www.thefreelibrary.com/DETRO...LD+NEW+SERIES+55+ENGINE+IN+DETROIT-a014984794
We had one on a small water well drilling unit. Ours was 1992ish. ours ran well first four banger we ever owned. It was rated 310hp. If you dont need big power you should get good fuel mileage out of it. Had the detroit electronic code reader also.
They were a pile of junk, numerous problems from head gaskets to cranks. They were so bad Freightliner had a program that for $3000.00 dollars the would take the 55 out and put 60 series in. You used to see piles of old 55 series behind Freightliner shops
