lifted from else where: Doosan Infracore's Futuristic Excavator received the Best of the Best Award at Global Design Show ATLANTA, September 14, 2009 — Doosan Infracore has announced receiving the Best of the Best Award at the '2009 Reddot Design Award Show' for the futuristic concept excavator, 'CX'.. This Reddot Design Award was first started in 1955, and is managed by Design Zentrum Nordheim Westfalen in Germany. This award is given after the world's biggest design competition, and is one of the world's top three industrial design competitions along with the iF Design Award and the IDEA design award. More than 2,733 designs were entered, from 61 countries, and 206 were honored at the Reddot Design Award, which awards products that are creative, innovative, and superior in quality. Out of these awarded designs, only 15, including Doosan Infracore's futuristic concept excavator, were presented with the Best of the Best Award. Out of the 15 Best of the Best Awarded designs, only one will be presented with the honorary Luminary Award on November 24, 2009 in Singapore. Doosan Infracore's futuristic concept excavator was well received by the judges for its Eco-Transformer concept, which reflects four core benefits: ecology, safety, usability, and efficiency. The excavator is designed to function at the highest level at various working sites, to be environmentally friendly with energy-efficiency, and to exhibit high performance even in severe conditions. Development of this futuristic excavator is targeted to finish by 2018. Doosan Infracore’s global goal of becoming a Top 3 Infrastructure Support business will be realized with continued innovation and leading product development. I was thinking the same thing. That round thing on the end of the stick must be a motor, either hydraulic or electric. It also has only one boom cylinder- odd for a machine of that size. 4 "wheel" drive is interesting but how many of us really need it? I mean if you can't push or pull your way out of trouble, what good are two extra drives?

I would assume that its similar to the Volvo Sphinx using all those electronic and what not motors. Thanks for the thread, stock. Now thats Doosan and Volvo... And Doosan and MAN, the latest recipients of Reddot Design Awards.

seems to me like doosan has stolen the design from volvo they made the design for the "sphinx"several years ago and its the same triangular tracks and so on you can check it out here YouTube - Volvo SphinX grävmaskin - koncept maskin (engelska)

I just want to stab myself in the eyeball with a pencil after watching that. You guys know how much that machine would cost? At least a million. Now, let's get on with the suit that "fellow" was wearing? Was that a Swedish work suit? And I really like the way that machine tiptoes through the tulips - I think they should call this model the "ballerina". And what about that music......James Bond walking through the casino, anyone?

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG! the thought os having to wear "spandex" "I would look like a beach ball well a partially inflated one, having the middle nearly full" Might wake up the lads on the site on a Monday though.

Actually, those tracks intrigue me. I want my excavator to be roadable, maybe 25pmh or something. How bout that? The tractability of tracks, with the roadability of wheels. I'm thinking of a steiger stx here. Maybe not for mine work, but for general construction, basements and simple sewer work, how handy would that be?

  16. #16AmericanLandMgt2009-12-08 23:03

The transport mode seems like a cool idea, but is it really a good idea to have a fourty ton tracked machine cruising around a job site at road speeds? Especially with the fairly limted 360 degree visability excavators offer. Seems like a lot of "operators" would be getting someone killed. I wouldnt want to have to slam on brakes in one of them.

that is by far the dumbest video I have ever seen.. I hear that it can rotate so fast that it actually takes flight in helicopter mode.

That machine will spend more time in the shop with mechanics that have no idea how to go about fixing it then it would working. It appears to be a giant mood ring with it changing colors like that. The extendable counter weight would be a good idea until you start knocking stuff over when it comes out unexpectedly. whos going to wash their tracks out before they go flying down the road. Keep it simple
