Hello, I found a Dresser 545,seems nice machine, for cheap. 1989, with 11000 hours It was working in a metal recycling factory. Does someone knows this product? Here will be easy to find parts for engine,it's a Mercedes 6 cylinders 9.6 liters. What power of engine? The motor type of this engine, also mounted on trucks, is rated to 280hp.And i found on technical data in an old prospectus it is 250. Perhaps 2 versions. Here stays on 1928 MB Trucks. Looks like a modern H90e,i have. But with most smooth pumps apparently. I have to visit in few days, and so i take decision, between this 545 and a Michigan L125C
Hi Georges, Realise this thread is a few days old so hope this info may still be of use. This Dresser model is not familiar over here, probably because of the engine installation. However, the engine itself I may be able to help with. A 6 cylinder @ 9.6 lits would have to be a V6, around 1989 era these were a turbocharged industrial version and may be the same model sold to Class for use in headers and Kassborher(?) for use in snow gromers. HP output varied on install, but around 250hp sounds right. If it is this motor, it was never used in trucks in this configuration, but the parts are basically common with the automotive versions, you should still be able to get both genuine and after-market parts for it. I think it would be type designation OM401A, engine # 401------ -- ------ The truck engines you refer to were a family of V8's @ 14.6 lits, and you are correct, the lowest rating was 250hp, then a 280hp rating, turbocharged at 330hp and turbocharged/intercooled at 380hp. By 1989 this series had been superceded for automotive use. If you have the engine serial number, any MB dealer should be able to supply parts and info on it, a solid motor if it's been maintained. Watch for internal corrosion if untreated water has been used in the cooling system. (rots the wet liners and any aluminium parts). Regards.
Hello LK2628 After my visit, yesterday,It 's clear about engine. It's simply a OM 421A, 11 liters , V6. Very used here in Europe, easy for parts...like you say. Sounds nice,no smoke, oil is clean, water(coolant blue) also.I watched carefully, this time i want a clean one!(I rebuilt a DVT 573 what remember! God!...) Hydraulic doesn't leaks, juste the left cylinder(the biggest between wheel and chassis) and oil pective. On this model, axles on oil with drain, and brakes in oil . Seems like a IH 90e in a modern version, reviewed. I am ok with the seller,so I bought it . The bucket is a big one,a Roll Out Bucket of 5,5 cubic meters, width of 144" !!!! So i have to disassemble it for transport,my company cannot carrying more of 3,00 meters. Some photos will come. 2 tyres are totally destthats why it was cheap. So i have luck to found 4 tyres for a very correct price, near me in 26.5r25 .So we have to change them because we can not move amywhere with flat tyres.I asked people who install it to make it, it s more sure cause i remember it was a big **** to inflate ,2 years ago i change one on my IH 90e Loader. Waiting ,waiting, to keep the toy ! Next week, on Thursday, boys! Friendly,Georges
Hi Georges, It sounds like a bit of a beast, good luck with it now you have purchased. Is the bucket the only item that needs to be removed before you can transport it to your yard? Give the engine a maintance service (adjust the tappets) and check the corrosion protection in the coolant, this is more important than the anti-freeze protection depending on your local weather! Only MB approved products should be used, others just do not work, even if they give good anti-freeze performance. We use a 50/50 mix ratio with water, this is easier to remember if you need to top it up, and will withstand some dilution if it is accidentially topped up with just water. However, use the recomended ratio mix if your outside temperature requires a higher ratio. (Not sure how cold it gets at your place!) Otherwise, oil it, feed it and it will go everytime. Look forward to more photos of it, especially under the engine hood. Hope the tire change does not hold up getting your new toy back to your sand-pit so you can have a play. Regards.
Hello Friends, Here is my new machine at home. Was folkloric for changing tyres...and transportation of the big one.The trailer of the company, was a bit cracked everywhere, when i go to climb on it, it moves all directions like a boat. 100 miles, and at home.I was rassured somewhere to keep it a home entirely... Forgot my photo this famous day, was so excited, that's damageable for archives cause it was really folkloric with the place it stays . Put 2 batteries on it, and turn key, starts immediatly(not running for 2 years.)before, i looked up at all levels. No leaks on hydraulic, final reductors or axles.Shafts are good ,were fulled up with grease very often. And this machines has not worked on earth moving,so generally clean. Just brakes are not working.(leak on a pipe after cylinder wheres a manocontact of brake pressure fluid) Hydraulic is powerfull, and very smooth comparatively in a Hough H90E! This machine was first used to charge coal on a sugar factory for heating,to 2002.Next, the seller bought it in 2002 to charge aluminium after grinder in a recyclying metal factory. But tyres were very often full of leaks, cause of metal pitches,so they use it 700 hours in 8 years. Now,a little service, drain the converter, engine, hydraulic seems clean, reacts good(cold or warm) and engine is powerfull, try in a place with big earth mountains to arrange, but the visibility is not so good with the roll'out bucket which is big. On photo near my Zettelmeyer 602B,(1 cubic meter bucket-6tons weight)seems like a miniature toy... Following you'll see certainly a new paint on it, it is original lack little rusted on front. Have good moments with yours, and good work!
Her some more photos!
Hello Georges, do you still have the DRESSER 545 Payloader? I´m needing some measurements from it, because I make a scale model. Is it possible that I can send you a drawing, were you can fill in some measurements?
