I think this model DROTT 50 D (install DD 6V-53N or Case 504 BDT) I have full set manual for this excavator (Parts catalog, service manual, operation manual) Contact me if need this.

The Drott machines were bought out by case, and now Fiat, they built a 50, 50B, 50D, 50E, and the latest case 1280, 1280B before the line shut down for good. The 50 weight is around 50,000 pounds, it's a 1 1/2 yard machine, the sticks came in several lengths that would change lifting and break out power, most came from the plant with a turntable leveler that would tilt around 8", the engine was 504 case or the 6v53 DD around 200 hp . They used a tandem main gear pump with a gpm of between 100-140 gal, at around 2900-3300 psi. They also used a fast hoist system flow as needed with the later also having a power sensing system. The areas of problems, swing box bolts working loose, and final drive axles shaft splines/ sprocket splines and the block bearings used to hold the axle/sprocket/final to the track frame. The D series and before was more drott, the E series was more case, the last E series was around 82 that I seem to recall, you are looking at 30 + years old. Is the machine you friend is looking at a E series.

I would try to get the s/n and model off the tag on the upper frame, it is on the outside between the cab corner and the lower boom cylinder mount, some other keys if the machine has a double folding door it's a D, if it has a single large door it's a E. The case power tan and power brown color came out until the 1280 series and not the 50 series.
