Error code on D5K XL

Alan Stevenson · 2023-08-06 18:00

Popping cedars and making brush piles and my 2011 Cat D5K XL just quit moving and red flashing light came on, and blade quit moving. Engine runs, turns on and off normally. First error code on display show AO39 2685-08. How can I find out what that error code means? Thanks

LH motor speed sensor fault. Locate the sensor and unplug the electrical connector. Is it full of oil.? If it is that is a good indication that the sensor has failed. Are there any more Active Codes, indicated by the letter “A” before the Code.?

Thank you and yes. 2687-08, 2688-08

Those are the speed sensors for the RH side. Because it’s both of them and not just one like the LH side the machine won’t move until signal from at least one sensor is present. Are you sure you’ve not had a rodent in there chewing on insulation.? A physical inspection of the sensor wiring, plus the previous suggestion of unplugging the sensors and checking for oil in the connectors, should be the next step. BTW don’t go looking for 2 separate sensors on each side. There are two sensors electronically but they are combined in a common body.

Your sensors are #23 & #23A on the illustrations below.

Do you know where the sensor is located? I don't.

Thank you, Sir. I will go over and start to see how to access that wiring harness and sensors then visually inspect them, unplug them and check wiring for any type of damage.
