estimators, d8r/t production costs

I'm located in an area that is suposed to go crazy with marcellas shale gas well drilling operation. The wells are horizonal in type, with a 3-5 acre pad needed. Pad might be on top of a hill or in the side of one, or in a level field. So your going to make a level, 5 acre pad, 160 yards square. And they want a 600k to a 1 mil gallon pond inc. in that pad. Pond gets a liner. So for that type of work, what type of equipment are you going to use? I'm thinking a d8r/t, ripper and a su or u blade, and a vibratory roller, maybe a hoe for the pond. Prolly a d5g for trim and finish. Running that type of a spread, what are your costs per yard going to run. I have a number in my head but im interested in what you guys can think of, thanks.

i dunno about estimating cost per yard, but i do the same kind of work down here in southern wv, but we dont build marcellas pads, just regular horizontal pads that are roughly 150-200x300-400, and we use D6R's and 320's, and i would get a dozer with a blade that could be angled, and a winch instead of a ripper, D8 would be a good size machine to do that with, and maybe a 330 sized hoe...just my 2cents

Do you have a signed contract with a gas company or are you just bidding them. I tried about 10 months ago getting hooked up with those gas guys but they were not interested. I heard that Latona has most of the pads.

to gasfield, these pads are suposed to be 500' x 500', with possibility to take 200' off the top of a mountain. I was thinking a ripper might be handy if you got into rock and at that depth, you will. I'm thinking the sites might need shot, and some 627's might come in handy. If you had a winch on a 5g, would the 8 need one too? Rino, nothing signed, trying to pry the door open. Get access to the bids and see what they look like and stuff, and if the money is there, jump in. I'm learning that what is said and what is actually happening can be 2 different things... Haven't seen any latona stuff up here, but they could be.

well we never had to take a cut out of a mountain that big about 100 ft is the biggest we have had to take and we have had to shoot many locations and if we had to do any hauling, we used 30-40 ton lizzard trucks...well if you had a 5 with a winch that would probably work pretty good depending on the size timber you had to clear, dont know how good a 5 would drag a 50" red oak. And if you had to blast i have built many that i wish i would have had a ripper on the back of the dozer
