I have seen on several youtube videos of blokes using wooden mats under their excavators to stop them sinking into mud. What dimensions do you use for these, and what types of timber?
FarmerAlex, We run on matts up to 24' with a Daewoo 220 lc111, most have the cables to lift with but some have the cut out with the 1"/ 1.25" rods these are mostly crane matts. There are several matt companies in eastern n.c. that will custom build to our specs. I think the last set cost around $5000.00 for eight 4'x 24'x10" thick including freight. I have run on 10'/12'/14' matts but some areas even the 24' sink below the mud and you end up fishing for them.
