Deere 690b, Is slow speed more powerful? Or is fast speed more powerful? Best way to turn tracks, should boom be put down to lift front of tracks?

The old ones with the gear motors, they're both weak as pudding.... but theoretically if the shift is working correctly slow should be stronger. The gear pumps on those were only good for three or four thousand hours typically, and you need to adjust all the relief valves periodically as they get weak, which causes heat, which accelerates wear and also oxidation of the oil which accelerates wear. Back in the early 90's one contractor I knew of had three, and they never would turn without boom down and rotate the house while tracking. The two I nursemaided did better only because the boss liked production and weak pumps don't move dirt. Oh, the rotary swivel seals have to be in good shape too, or no walkie... If you have a newer one with Linde piston motors, for sure should be much more powerful in low. There's a push pull cable in the cab that runs a pair of flow dividers, anybody remember what the deal on that was? I knew once, but apparently a random pint has killed those brain cells.
