those drills were the exact models Dad had when he was doing fiber work.. Its one bitc# of a job, thats the one job or industry I dont want involved in(directional drilling that is)

yeah the equipment is interesting, but it seems like the job would suck after a while

Oh come on, the directional guys around here are great. They have a habit of punching gas lines through the center of maholes, not telling anyone, and moving on. The drill operator can feel if they go into something hollow. I worked with a guy that did directional work, he said they would shout hollow, the shout solid. They knew they went through a manhole based on how much distance the put thru.

Yeah real quick, especially when your the owner and you lose $10,000 in rod and you cant get it out or your drilling in sand and it collapses and you've got to go back through it again...

Bahahaha! We never had anything like that happen, except when the guy over seeing that everything got done right told Dad(the owern/operator) to go deeper and he wouldnt hit anything and he punched through a high pressure water main and then a sewer line.. But Dad did do some pretty interesting jobs, like he did a shot under a river in Tampa, I cant remember the name of it, but they couldnt stop work, did the whole job in about 48hrs straight with little 15min cat naps while waiting on the mud truck to get back with water..
