Hello all! This is my first thread. We just took our old Ford 9000 truck in to the shop in town for a leaking injector. It was blowing a little black smoke and we were starting to get some diesel in the oil. Truck was running fantastic apart from this when we dropped it off. When we picked the truck up it was running terrible! They replaced all the injectors and I'm sure they messed something up. It's blowing more black smoke than ever! When we rev it up it makes terrible sounds and it sounds like there's air leaking somewhere as well. Their response to this was "sorry, we didn't drive the truck around before hand so we don't know if we made it worse. Anyways it's yours now, pay us. Hope you aren't mad" Anyhow I noticed that this plate is on upside down! The screw in the middle has all scratched up but I don't know much about diesel engines. Does anyone have any idea?? Thanks so much.
Where did the shop get the nozzles from, but that cover for aftercooler crossover is on upside down and is leaking turbo charger boost---valuable air for engine operation. *
If the nozzles were aftermarket---those have a high likely hood of being suspect for a misfire. A friend just went through this scenario with a set of aftermarkets on a B model, rebuilt by a shop in California. He knew better too--because he is a 24 year at Cat Mechanic, happened on a customer job. He ended up eating it and buying a set from Cat. * Plus changing out a set of nozzles is not a tough job, it's a good job to perform. Like anything else it's just a step by step job. Does this engine have jakes/engine brakes?
Yes it does have engine breaks. We were told the nozzles were from cat, but after this I have no reason to trust what they say. Do you know what the center bolt is on the after cooler crossover cover? And what possible reason they would have to put it on upside down? It must've been on purpose.
It’s a pipe plug for connecting whatever to. Test gauge, boost gauge, whatever. But, my goodness. Shame on the mess. Sorry that happened to you. Welcome to the HEF. Hope you get this sorted out.
You realy have to figure out how to perform these repairs, yourself, moving forward. There is a competency crisis and it’s just getting worse. Like the great prophet, Risky Chrisky, once said. “It’s gonna get worse, before it gets worse”. Bless his heart.
If the shop can't replace a simple cover correctly then I would not trust them to change injectors
Well that means---you would have to have them change the cover first then nozzles as a test.
Something like that, lol
Probably didn't have the proper cat dress code going that day, it's a special thing.
How are shops like that still in business?
Work off population.
What kind of shop was this? How could they not tell the cover was on upside down? There's incompetence and then there's just plain stupidity. I wouldn't trust this shop to check the oil level.
