My dad has a Ford 801 that he is painting and he wanted me to repack the front wheel bearings. Its turned into a nightmare. The old seals have a 2 1/2 hole and the spindle is 1 11/16. The new seals have a 2" hole. The nearest ford dealer is a 2 hour trip and wants 80.00 for 2 seals. The parts stores cant get any thing close to this size. It shows in a parts book that allmost all of the small fords take the same seal.Tomorrow i may have to go to the town were the ford dealer is. Is this a strange seal of some kind?
Do you mean the hub has a 2 1/2" hole? Give us outside and inside diameter from the old seal, or measure the hole size in the hub and also the spindle where the seal rides, is it exactly 1 11/16" There is a heavy duty version, takes oil seal 310195 which crosses to New Holland 81809444 it is bigger but I can't find any dimensions for it on the web. Call your local parts stores or New Holland and ask them to check the dimensions for you?
The old seals inside were it should ride on the spindle is about 2 1/2. Is there 2 diffrent spindles sizes? The spindle is exactly 1 11/16. He got the parts number from a dealer and ordered some local but they were less than 1/4 thick and were so tight on the spindle that they may have turned in the hub. I dont have the all the parts numbers here right now but the one from the dealer is nca1190a. I am going to the dealer in the morning. You wouldnt think that parts for a old ford tractor would be so hard to get.
There are two different spindles for that tractor, the standard and the heavy duty. Not sure what's different. but it does seem that the inboard bearing is 1 3/8" ID instead of the standard 1-1/4. The NCA1190A is for the standard.
I went to the dealer and showed the parts guy my new seal. He know what i had before i said any thing and i had the right seal. The seal dosent run on the spindle it rubs aginst the back end were the spindle hooks on. What a deal it will make adjusting the wheel bearings fun. Thanks lantraxco for your help.
