Please......Slow down in the cone zone..... Nice pics :drinkup I'm not sure how many in here have ever had the chance to work on a project like this , but IMHO a freeway job is the most dangerous kind of work there is for those of us in the construction trades. Any time you are put in a position where motorists, many of who are in need of a rectal/cranial inversion are speeding by at 15-30 miles per hr. above the posted speed limit, there is going to be a certain number of mishaps. On the I-15 Baker truck lane project, there was some kind of accident every single day. We even watched a CHP pull over some idiot running through our lane closure doing 105mph He got to ride in the back seat of a CHP cruiser that day. He's lucky he didnt kill someone....or one of us. The only time I was ever injured was working on a freeway overpass project here in Indio. I know what its like to truly be "lucky"

i agree with you roll over pete 100% but atleast on this project they have the concrete barriers spanning the entire 6.2 miles of the project and they have the conveyor which cuts down on truck traffic.

Nice pictures. I really need to buy a camera for road trips

  13. #13oakland2008-07-17 21:04

yes a camera really helps on any trip i take mine everywhere i go. you never know what you might see! got some more pics uploaded today of some more equipment. 1st is a deere 350d in the middle of i-84 2nd is a newer knife river paver that was parked by the conveyor. 3rd and 4th are more equipment by the conveyor. and 6th is a d6h lgp ready to be loaded up. i know this doesent even compare to burnouts 385s and 1250 :notworthy but it was the only thing not in the middle of the freeway . i cant get hit taking pictures of these .

This is off the wall, but I noticed a double tanker in a pic, and a triple pup (R+L) in another. Wierd to see that considering they dont allow it in N.C. Good Pics!

time for an update there paving to prepare to switch the old freeway traffic into the new lanes so the old freeway can be completley redone and updated. in other words its about to be a horrible mess . theres some pics of the paving and the start of a mobile concrete plant. all the bridges must be widened before the project can be finished and there redoing the freeway in concrete.

I know what you mean. First time i saw them I didn't know what to make of them. Course it's mostly straight goin for those guys in that part of the country and those pups drive like a hay wagon, one right after the other. I'd like to see some of those giant rigs that get run in Australia, road trains I think they call 'em (course it been a few knocks to the head :dizzy since I heard the term )

  22. #22oakland2008-09-02 21:29

yes we have some very strange rules here . but your right its pretty straight out here .

  23. #23Bob Horrell2008-09-02 21:57

To add to RollOver Pete's comments about the dangers of such projects, there was a highway widening of highway 138 in North Los Angeles county where they had so many problems with the general highway public that they finally sent everyone on a long detour to keep them out of the way of the contractor. This went on for several months and ticked a lot of people off, but it made it safer for the guys working. It only happened because of the few stupid drivers that endangered the workers - some purposely.

  24. #24oakland2008-09-02 22:05

they need to do that here no one goes the speed limit and there has already been accidents because of it people need to slow down and brighten up:Banghead

  25. #25redline2008-09-03 03:04

yep roadtrains is the term, awesome pics thanks for posting

  26. #26oakland2008-09-13 20:07

:update its been awhile since an update so whos ready for more pics? they are done paving the middle lanes and traffic has been switched to them. there are 3 terex soil stabilizers working and alot of equipment.

  27. #27oakland2008-09-13 20:10

more pics of the many pieces of equipment the last pic is a brand new 330d and they have a pipelayer here. have only seen one before here, so its kinda cool to see:drinkup

  28. #28insleyboy2008-09-14 20:06

Oakland, what was the very first pic. Was that some form of a pile driver or a drill rig maybe?

  29. #29oakland2008-09-14 20:13

yeah it was a piledriver owned by inland crane its actually an old log loader that was converted into the pile driver. it was there for about 2 weeks when they widened the bridge that went over ten mile creek so they could add the other lanes.

  30. #30oakland2008-09-23 22:25

:update another update! well now they have the concrete plant up. the freeway lanes on the right side is gone! just dirt remains so there will be some major grading happening soon. as well the concrete paver should be arriving soon. 143,000 square yards of portland cement in two planned phases. yay! there will also be 2 bridges being demolished in 2 days. that will be interesting to say the least. hopefully some pics they come down this friday and wont be put back until late january 2009.
