I have a 1997 John Deere 550g and found a bunch of friction material in the transmission suction screen. I was wondering if it looks like brake material or clutch material. Also found 2 broken snap ring pieces.
Definitely transmission clutch material ,not brake band or steering clutch. The snap ring is from a for/rev or speed clutch ,retains the clutch backing plate. Any transmission performance issues ?
Yes.. if that snap ring failed, you’ll likely have clutch pack movement causing slipping, delayed engagement, or loss of a forward/reverse or speed range
It was delayed in shifting.
Its time to remove a transmission. Hope fully it is a torque converter that can be taken apart, be sure to clean all piping related to the transmission and such. Does the bevel gear and all that share the trans fluid? Needs lots of flushing out etc.
Oil cooler included!
