I have a pickup with dana 60 floating axle in a ford truck im looking for information on available ratio"s its geared to low no good for cruising speeds around 60 mph any help on this would be appreciated
What year is it if it has a dana 60 maybe early 80s so it dosent have a overdrive. Fords most of the time are very high geared. Look on your build sheet or for a tag on the rear end to see what gear you have now. They did away with the dana 60 and came out with a 61 i think because they wanted to go higher than the what a 60 would hold which was something like 3.40.
its a 79 f250 the center section has a 60 cast in to it the trans is np 4 spd 2wd engine is a 400 its gotta be a low geared rear end cause this thing can pull like a tractor and im only interested in getting somewhere quick enough and not stuck revving all topped out at 45 mph. its a tool hauling parts getting deal I got going on here and there is long stretches between small towns. 45 mph is not going to cut it
I think you can get a 3.40 and with that and a tall tire you should be ok. You probable have 4.11 now. My chevy has 4.10s with the shortest tire i can run 225/16 i run it all day long at 70 mph. I drove a 80 ford with a 400 c6 4.11s on a 600 mile one way trip and it would run 70 ok but that was about it.
