Ya i hear ya...keep the"uneducated guy" outta the loop. I got plenty of storys about the "higher ups" not clueing anyone in to the job, and then making things go alot harder than they should be. long story short, had to move a 4100 hi cab by barge. With the "project manager" running the show the walk on took about 7 hours without anything being accomplished, until the captain and myself got together with the customer and took the job over. The walk on was so easy after all was said and done it took 45 minutes to complete. All it took was some eyeball work and a some testicular fortitude on the guy walking the machines part, coupled with his knowledge that the "project manager" was not on the job anymore. Phase 2 of the project (transporting it downriver) didn't go smooth either. He was advised by myself that with the barge and the crane on top, we didn't have enough water under the keel to make the trip. What should have taken 12 hours took 36+ hours, and was a big money loser despite all of our blood, sweat and tears. The "project manager" was informed by me that this was not a good job to do, and would be a dog if we tried without hammering the customer for a ton. If it was a T&M we would probably still be in business now. He bid it as a daily rate...ugh.
