I think you got a good plan if built as shown in your pictures. It will make a nice portable unit. One thing I would do is put on pneumatic tires to roll on and jacks that will extend down on the corners and pin. It will push around much easier than using load rated steel wheels.

Welcome to the Forums Trombeur!:drink up I too have kicked around the idea of building one for the shop. Obtained a couple of I beams from a demo job and have other structural steel lying around. One would be useful for unloading heavy items out of a pickup with only one person. Interested in seeing ideas.

2 ton lifting capacity?.....your post is unclear to me... ~10' span? your very first picture (the red one) is a design i have used before...only i prefer to extend the underhung top beam a couple of feet past the legs on each side and turn the braces around to go out instead of in....this allows your load to fit between the legs if needed and allows your lift trolly more side to side room.. as a starting rule of thumb your top beam needs to be at least a inch deep for each foot of span.. also...hoist trolleys are designed for two types of beams and are not interchangeable...so make sure your hoist trolley and beam are compatible......one type is a "w" "wide flange" beam which has a flat flange....the other is a "s" " I beam" which has a tapered flange also it is standard that on your first drawing...dimension E is no less than Half of dimension C Size of Posts/columns/pillars are determined as much by the C dimension as they are by the A load
