    What’s wrong with it

I spoke at length on the phone about his problem. Basically we need a schematic. His machine is not releasing the swing brake and it does not have computer control or a solenoid for that. This one basically uses something inside the main control valve to release the brake when pilot pressure is used to operate a function. A schematic or someone who knows the system is what is needed. Thanks!

I don't make any claim to know the system BUT if pilot pressure to release a negative brake i.e. mechanical set/hydraulic release is not coming from a DCV then it will be piloted from the A or B ports connected to the swing motor via a shuttle valve. Whichever port is high will send pilot pressure to release the brake. There may or may not be a pressure reducing valve between the shuttle valve and the brake, some of the brakes can't handle high pressure and only take 300 psi or so to release. This design is quite common in heavy industry, maybe not so in the mobile world. Good luck and let us know what you find.

We figured out a pilot hose was plumbed wrong. The system is supposed to release the swing brake anytime one of the implement functions is used. There is internal porting in the main control valve that sends pilot pressure to the brake through that internal porting when the swing, boom, stick or bucket functions are used. The pilot hose feeding that part of the valve wasn't hooked up and instead that pilot port was hooked to the drain to tank. Once we caught that Montana Man rerouted and the hydraulics worked normally.

Awesome job John C. Happy to hear that it is up and working.

The owner got the information on the hydraulic system from someone in Idaho. That gentleman deserves a shout out.
