Hitachi Zx 240

rafterb ยท 2015-03-15 22:00

We have a 2007 zx 240 that isn't running as it should when I turn throttle up it doesn't rev up as it should when it reaches full throttle it isn't smooth and cuts out some but, never dies just loses rpm just put on both fuel filters checked screen in 24 volt lift pump blew line backwards into tank it isn't smoking and still has power it starts good. Could it be the lift pump or injectors or injection pump this machine has 8400 hours any ideas ? Thanks,

If the machine isn't low on power then usually the engine miss is a sign that you need new injectors. At 8400 hours it would not surprise me that they need to be replaced.

Thanks ,Deere Tech how are those injectors removed, the line has a long nut didn't look real close but didn't see that the injecter had a place for a socket or wrench to turn it out

The line should go into the side of the head and have a seat on it that seals on the injector. The injectors are under the valve cover and have a hold down clamp. The injectors are electrically controlled and will have a code that will have to be programed into the ecu in order to remain EPA compliant.

I have been told that there is a screen in the fuel line close to the pump that needs checked when, I changed filters I looked for another in-line filter but, didn't see any did I miss it or is there one at or close to the pump Thanks

All the older Isuzu engines had one and sometimes two fuel screens in the banjo fittings going the transfer pump and the primary fuel filter or water separator. I have seen the newer ones like yours have a screen sometimes located on the inlet of the high pressure injection pump. Usually this screen doesn't get dirty since it is after the fuel filters. If this screen would get plugged then I would expect you to have the check engine light on and a loss of power because the high pressure pump would not be able to supply enough fuel to the common rail and the rail pressure sensor would cause the engine to derate.

That makes a lot of sense and I have no check engine lights on it really acts like its not getting enough fuel more than a injecter can I crack lines and listen for a change in the sound like we did on the older motors

Unfortunately no, the injection pump doesn't supply fuel to each individual injector, it supplies fuel to a common rail which acts like a manifold or distribution block supplying fuel at pressures up to 25000 psi to each injector. The common rail has flow control valve that shut off the supply of fuel to the injector if it detects a leak in the fuel line, so if you crack a line you will cause the flow control valve to close. Im not sure if they open back up once the line is resealed, either way its probably more trouble than its worth. With a laptop you can electrically cut out individual cylinders and see if you have a problem w/ just one injector.

It doent look like I can work on this my self I think its time to call a tech does most deere techs know how to work on and have the laptop for the hitachis I am in seia and no hitachi dealers are close

You will have to check with the dealer and let them know of your situation. Not all Deere dealers have the contract rights to sell Hitachi's and therefore they won't have the computer communications software that would help you out.

Ran machine some more a code came up it was governer control module dealer thinks egr valve

1002-2? We have a 270 with the same motor. Injectors have been done many times as well as the egr valve. Still have a code coming up though. The 1002-2 I believe it is. Dealer here figures its in the harness though. Hasn't affected the machine at all so we've been running it as is. As the previous owner has as well.

Any solution to this fault? It sounds strange. Normally injector failures will always give you smoke. With injector failures you also generally get an 1239 fault code as well. EGR faults usually present themselves with lots of black smoke, the engine revs ok but takes a while to build boost pressure due to the EGR valve being stuck open. Another possible cause would be a failed common rail pressure switch although, again that usually presents itself with lots of white smoke. With these engines usually the easiest and most cost effective way of troubleshooting is monitoring the inlet pressure and common rail pressure with the laptop.

Had a tech put lap top on the machine fuel pressure was fine put a wiring harness on the machine because it would loose rpms and was throwing different codes that seems to have fixed it
