Hough brake issue

zlssefi ยท 2008-01-10 23:36

Hey guys, having some problems with the front brakes on my h90E hough. Couldnt get any pressure to the front brakes, so i rebuilt the power cluster and master cylinder. After this i could get one good shot of brake fluid out of the bleeder, then nothing. If i let it sit for 30 or 40 seconds, i could get another shot of fluid. I took the air inlet line off the booster, and pressured it up with shop air, and the cluster worked perfectly and bled perfectly. It is apparent that the air is not being released out of the power booster when the line is attached. Have you guys heard of the treadle valves malfunctioning to where they dont let the air exhaust completely??? any help is appreciated!

Have never bled the brakes on a Hough, but the problems you have also apply to the earlier cat loaders, the only way to do it successfully is by pressure bleeding them in my experience.

It's been years since I've even seen one of those dogs and longer since I've worked on one. Rusted brought back some memories back about the power bleeder. It looked like a steel ball with a flange in the middle, had an air chuck on the top and a hose coming out the bottom. A rubber bladder in the middle separated the brake fluid on the bottom from the air pressure on the top. We plugged it into the master cylinder and opened the valve on the fluid side, then went to all the wheel cylinders. You could have a problem in the treadle valves not releasing also. I would step on the pedal and then release it. Go back to the air can and crack the fitting and see if you have pressure release. If so I would replace the treadle valve. They are the same as used on a regular highway truck. Good Luck!
