Hydraulic oil gushing out the drive motor sprocket fill plug

Norbert77 ยท 2016-08-28 21:15

Got to play with my new Deere 693B feller. Made excavator. Saw a bit of a leak on the top bung, went to remove it to seal it up. Hydraulic oil came out like a waterfall. Checked the other side, same. No oil anywhere. Mind you it was only driven little bits, but should that not be full of gear oil? My first thought was the drive motor is leaking into the gearbox. If it is a motor seal, how long/ expensive to pull and reseal?

Sure sounds like the drive motor is leaking hydro oil in to the final drive . How bad is the leak ? Drain off the oil & run it a day & see how much oil builds back up in the final . On a good note at least there is no danger of the final drive going dry . Think positive Bro !

    Thanks I LOLed

Stop that machine now. The spring in the lip seal can pass through the hydraulic motor and cause you some big grief. Iv'e just had the same problem on a track drive and was very lucky to get away with little damage, it could have wrecked all the internals.

Thought that would make ya laugh Norbert77 . I've got the same issue on my excavator . Port side hydro motor leaks slowly in to the final drive box . Drain a little off time to time while servicing the machine . Not a big deal . We'll fix it when it becomes a real problem . The hydro oil will provide enough lube for the final . Would be more concerned if the final drive was low on oil . That will get ya in trouble .

Reading all the posts on the subject. How can a swivel manifold cause this leak? Vent hole to pressure line somehow? Stupid machine in s a 3.5 hour drive I can't just rout and check something

There is a lip seal on the out put shaft between the motor and the gearbox. If the spring in the seal comes out it could bugger the gears or motor depending on which way it goes. It's a gamble wether that spring will even move but if it does your in for some big bucks.

693B is old school, it has planets, but also has a spur gear case, with a brake unit between the spur gears and the two section, two speed, GEAR hydraulic motor. The brake is what's leaking, common issue on these old dogs (same as the 690B at least system wise don't know about parts interchange) they're supposed to have breathers on them but they're commonly plugged...or plugged for real because owners would remove the breathers and plug the hole rather than fix the brake piston seals again, LOL! Should be a sheet metal cover just behind the rotek mount tower between the finals, might be on hinges, can't recall, the motors and brakes live there tucked into the carbody. Piston seals, shaft seals, motor O-rings, back in business if all goes well.

This would be so much better with pictures. My manual isn't here yet. The excavator is right next door to a hydraulic rebuild place. Don't know if I can trust them too much. It needs to get shipped to my site which is right beside a Deere dealership, they may have more experience but also charge more.

I had the something slimer happen with a JD270. The final drive was shot I mean shot. Which messed up the seal between it and the drive motor. Was dumping hydraulic fluid into it un known to me at the time. I pulled the final drive drive motor still attached. I went to drain it in the rebuild room I pulled the plug expecting a slow run of gear oil and to come out but to my surprise and my boss who just had walked passed the drive hanging up on an over crane hydraulic/gear oil shot out of and hit the wall about 6 feet away.

You'll need to find the Deere tech with gray hair and wrinkles, that's an old machine
