Just bought 931B. Was starting to unscrew hydraulic cap to check level but system was pressurized and oil started squirting out. Explanation?

the hydraulic tank being pressurized is normal, the oil squirting out seems like its overfilled. Was it just some spray or was quite a bit coming out?

Same thing on my 955....been trying to figure that out for some time. The cap has a vent channel formed into the side of it, but the rubber gasket under the cap blocks the vent. Is that made to work only at excessive pressures?

What was the oil level in the sight glass just below the cap..? Was the loader absolutely cold when you removed the cap..? The cap is designed to be an air-tight seal so that when the system is hot expansion of the oil and the air above it generates a certain amount of pressure inside the tank and so assists the suction into the hydraulic implement pump. So unless the machine was absolutely cold (say after sitting all night) it would be quite normal to have pressure in the tank. Before opening the cap the machine should be on level ground with the engine stopped, bucket on the ground, transmission lock & park brake both engaged, and the control levers "jiggled" to relieve any residual system pressure before CAREFULLY cracking the tank cap. Even then it may have a little residual pressure in it, this would be regarded as quite normal.

I keep mine midway up the sight glass. I don't have oil coming out like sheak. Just a little pressure. Thanks for the info!

Loosen the cap ever so much till you hear a hiss, then wait for it to stop or else you will start a siphon then its only time to cool or you will be cleaning it up.
