HyHoe 6000TT Problem

Hi Ive posted before about the hyhoe 6000tt i work on. SO my issue is, i replaced the pump drive clutch. Its a manual clutch going into a 28000 series triple funk pump drive. The shaft that sits in the pilot bearing holding the clutch going into the pump drive is walking back and fourth between the engine and pump drive. Almost coming all the way out of where it sits in the fly wheel. Id like to say that there is a internal snap ring missing from where the spline is where the input shaft sits in the pump drive but there is no cut out for one. This clutch is very expensive and i don't want to run the machine with it walking back and fourth between the engine and pump drive. To clarify: the clutch assembly on the shaft is tight. Its the whole shaft and clutch assembly walking back and fourth between the engine and pump drive. This doesn't seem normal, I've tried a bigger pilot bearing but it didn't help has anyone got a hint of whats going on? or if this is normal in a machine this old? (i hope not ) What keeps the shaft from moving when you engage and dis engage the clutch ?
