I have a 2005 dt466 international truck came in for service and we changed oil and all filters truck ran great for a 100 miles and then starting losing power and then completely shut down. tried to crank it back up and wont build up oil pressure so we had it towed back in to our fleet and we then replaced high pressure oil pump with a brand new irp valve, and also a new turbo, after replacing with a the old high pressure oil pump with new pump the truck cranked with a extremely hard start , it ran for minute and then shut it self back off will only build up 5 lbs oil pressure while trying to start. let it set 3 hours and will start up and run for a couple min(not even reaching operating temp) then shuts back off.... HELP I HAVE WASTED SEVERAL MAN HOURS AND CAN NOT FIGURE THIS OUT
now i have another truck that just started doing the same thing except that it has good oil pressure please i really need help
Does it have a low oil pressure pump?
I would be suspecting your oil supplier. Do you receive your oil in bulk or drums? Is your supplier reputeable? It doesn't take much to dilute engine oil with something lighter in weight.
oil is nice and thick well known dealer and is well know and 55 gallon drums it has a high pressure and and main oil pump
Any oil in fuel tank? Could have a bad o-ring on injector dropping high pressure oil into the fuel system.
I meant to type low pressure oil pump. To feed the hpop. If the hpop reservoir isn't getting enough oil it will shut down. But I'm speaking from 7.3 knowledge.
Before you start second guessing your self and chasing your tail. Drain some oil and check for metal, pull the filters and check for metal in those. Then using a remote manual gauge check oil pressure with it to verify there is a pressure problem, if you haven't already. Truck Shop
It's a HEUI engine right? May be a fuel issue causing injector probems, have you checked the injectors and the injector O-ring seals?
Yikes! Throwing some expensive parts at it, not good.. Possible egr issues? They should be spitting out some codes, have you scanned them? Did you just service the second truck as well before it acted up?
That's what I was wondering about too when I asked about the oil supplier. If it was contaminated just a bit...
i have a expensive scanner it will has not thrown any codes i checked the hpop and it is great pressure going to it and away from it i changed the oil filter and no shavings i have checked the injector 2300lbs give or take a few both filters looked great and i am still not getting anything today it started up for 18 min...... but then died out again and started back after 15 min of sitting and would only stay running while my foot was on the pedal ..... still no codes took my foot off the pedal and she died again ........ still no codes ........................ i have checked the oil pressure and 9/10 she only gets about 5 lbs oil pressure took off the high pressure line and hit the crank and she slung oil 12-19 inches away and a lot of it maybe 5/8 in diameter so i am still at a loss
When the truck dies and wont start is the check engine light on or off? If the check engine light isn't on then you've got a ECM power issue. Have you checked the battery connections and fuses/wiring in the battery box for corrosion? Without checking your engine oil pressure, injector oil manifold pressure, and fuel pressure with mechanical gauges you're shooting in the dark, relying on pressure sensors which could be faulty. The Injector oil manifold is sealed to the injectors and feed pipe with o-rings/backup rings, when they go it'll dump the oil back to the sump instead of pressurizing the injectors. So if you find your ICP is below spec while cranking (with a mechanical gauge), pull the rocker cover off and check for leaks, usually they run fine until the oil gets hot and thins the oil.
There should be a quick coupler on the fuel filter cover. What is the pressure? If I remember correctly the minimum pressure is 75 psi. Terry
i want to say thank you to everyone who is trying to help me out this is still mind blowing still have no clue what it could be i am about ready to part the whole truck out
I had a ford 6.0 give similar symptoms. Start when cold, run until oil got hot. Never would restart hot. I'm not completely sure how the DT466 system works but on the ford I didn't have any codes but with the scanner on I noticed it wouldn't get to 500 PSI oil pressure for it to fire and run. Took the ICP out and plumbed in a hose, aired it up with shop air and immediately heard leakage. On this particular truck it was the O-ring from the standpipe of the pump to the cover where the ICP and IPR reside. Perhaps that experience will spawn a thought and you'll chase it down. Maybe there's a certain minimum pressure it needs to see before it'll fire. If you an monitor parameters with your scanner like I can with mine maybe watch the various pressures and something may stick out. Good luck! Junkyard
Plumb a pressure gauge into the fuel filter coupler and get it started. The pressure should be 70 plus psi. If it drops real low when the engine dies then you have a fuel problem. Terry
