Ice breaker/Dredge

Can you tell it's an election year the province spent another million and a bit on a floating backhoe to help breakup ice ahead of spring flooding. Pretty neat machine really and now they seem to be admitting part of the problem is the Red River needs dredging as they the suction dredger attachment too. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews/Third-Amphibex-added-for-flood-fight-112965289.html http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2011/01/06/mb-amphibex-fleet-increase-manitoba.html?ref=rss http://www.cbc.ca/video/player.html?category=News&zone=canada&site=cbc.news.ca&clipid=1724605499 http://winnipeg.ctv.ca/servlet/an/l...pg_ice_jams_110106/20110106/?hub=WinnipegHome

You can dredging the Red all you want, it still wont be enough to hold all the water in the Red when it flood. We used machines like these in the 09 flood. I'm from down south in Fargo, ND.

They use to dredge the upper part of the Red all the time and part of Lake Winnipeg. They said in the past the area around Selkirk and north of Selkirk never had as much trouble as it has in recent years, plus boats didn't get stuck in it like one did this past summer.
