Ingersoll Rand VR90b hard starts when hot help.

Hello i recently purchased a used 1998 Ingersoll Rand VR90b. I took it to my heavy equipment tech and we found that injector pump needed to be replaced. So that was replaced with a reman pump and. Also did a full service, drained fuel tank replaced all filters. The machine runs much better but many times after the machine has been running a while it starts hard. It will crank hard then have to try it again and it will fire up. Let me know your thoughts thank you.

What engine does this machine have?

See if you can get an engine model and serial number

I will have to see if i can find it thanks

"crank hard" does that mean it cranks slowly like the engine is hard to turn? and then it cranks normally the next time you try it and then it starts? Sounds like a wiring issue, or else a hydraulic load on the engine issue. Measure the cranking voltage at the starter cold, and then again when hot to see if you can find a difference. Double check the hydraulic valves to see they're back to neutral.

Ok how would i check the hydraulic valves to be in neutral

Ideally you'd know what kind of hydraulic pump and system. open center gear pump, what type of closed center? I'll assume it's a gear pump. You operate every control valve and make sure they pop back into the center position. Sometimes power steering can put hydraulic load on the engine also. Another test is leave the boom in the air, and when it "cranks hard" operate the boom down function to see if that changes the cranking speed. Electrically, you'd basically have to wire a voltmeter direct to the starter to see what voltage it's seeing from the seat to catch it when it acts up. You could answer the other questions too.

Ok i will give that a try. This is all new to me as this is my first machine. I do know if the boom is in the air and you turn the key to on position the boom will not go down. It will only move it the engine is running.

I forgot about load locks, being a forklift, you're right, I'm not sure how that would affect the hydraulics locking at start. Steering and power brakes could still be checked. Try turning the steering wheel while cranking? or you could check the cranking voltage at the starter, AND at the battery. Both drop more when it cranks hard means more load on the engine. If the battery holds the voltage as well or better than a cold start, but the starter voltage drops during the hard cranking, then the wires or starter are suspect. You may need better advice on this specific system, but first confirm: "crank hard" does that mean it cranks slowly like the engine is hard to turn? and then it cranks normally the next time you try it and then it starts? or does it crank longer without firing? or WHAT?

Tracing back some wiring because someone did some wiring on this in the past i found this power wire connected to nothing that feeds into the fuel filter area. It is grounded to the battery. Not sure what this may be. Its not hooked up to power.
