Having trouble removing rear axel to repair steering clutch. Got left side out but the center axel (don't know terminology yet) came with it and won't seperate and the right side comes partway but no further. I used a slide hammer but no go. I have no idea where to go now. Any ideas? thanx steve
Should come out unless the thrush bearing is cocking and holding it.... speaking of that, make sure the thrust bearings don't fall down into the final drive... they can be a pain to get out and if left in will destroy the final drive. As the pinion (axle) starts coming out drop the end that you are holding down at an angle a little bit so you can keep the thrust bearing from falling. You should be able to take a piece of 3/4" pipe and push it through from the other side to coax it out also. Mine came right out with the slide hammer. Probably just hung up on rusty splines on the clutch drum.
Try a website called redpower quite a few posts on replacing clutches in the 500c. Think you have to be really carefull pulling the axels. If you dont do it just right something can fall off, drop in the rear housing causing big grief. Good luck
