hello, have a komatsu pc200lc-3, just got it and want to service it. the manual i have says to use 30w oil. is this correct? i do not want to use the wrong stuff, but isnt a modern synthetic like 15w40 better? i was always taught to follow manufactures recommendations but things have improved since the 80s. thanks

In that case I'll let the Komatsu specialists weigh in. TBH oils have improved a lot and there should surely be better options available from today's products.
