the bottom of the swivel post seems im-mobile on my 550 warner swasey hopco excavator.... it evidently broke the airlines off when i rotated it after parking for 4 yrs. after 2 days of putting kroil all over it, it still won't move... what gives?:beatsme:beatsme:beatsme
The problem with air is that it contains moisture. If the moisture is not removed (ie air dryer) it condenses on surfaces and settles in low spots and corrosion starts. It all depends on how badly the two surfaces are corroded as to how much it will take to get it loose. If you plan on keeping the machine I would remove the swivel and be careful disassembling it even if it takes a little extra time. You may end up having to sleeve it to keep it from leaking if it is bad enough.
Try a 50/50 mix of Acetone/ATF it works wonder for rust.
swivel post thanks you thanks to both of you for your response, i was at my wits end about!, well, after today (all day) i am an authority on this issue. I removed the brake for the house, pried up the air adapter housing and freed (free- ed) up the swivel post and put it all back together. It will never run low on grease again. (8 tubes later!) i think this machine should figure i rescued it from the scrap heap and it will be good to me. it was running on two cylinders, the track was broken, drive spocket broken, air cleaner completly full of muck, windows all broken... I believe this thing will be happy now.
Pictures, my man. We need pictures of this fine machine!
I'll second the pictures.
OK, pics............but!...... i ran it off the hillside yest. narrowly escaping being smashed by trees in the cab, boom and bucket missed me. engine still had oil press. (was running) so i got the cat and moved the road back under it........i took pics but darn camera is on the dozer.........tonight!
back with THE photos they should be here.
like this wasn't bad enuff......the track came off too but i was able to push it back on with the cat. today i'll see if it'll dig 100 yds. of trench.
Nice old machine you have there! Glad to hear you saved her from the scrap heap! Dumb question: are the boom cylinders mounted above the boom?
the stick and bucket cyl. are above the boom the hoist is under fwd. of engine.
Ahhh, yes, I see it now looking at the pictures more closely. That's sure an interesting way of doing it! Looks like a great old machine! How did it do with the 100 yards of ditching?
nix 100 yd. i made it about 75 yds. neighbor came by, we rigged a fuel pressure guage up and found engine is running on about 10 psi of fuel press. book says 50 lbs. i am told. i didn't get up there till 9 and the fuel thing took 3-4 hrs. and it was solid rock all the way, very tuff go but i was diligent, didn't stop. ,, tomorrow will lay in some pipe and dig to salt shed......... 150 yds. total....?
I wonder if you've got a blockage somewhere... I'm no detroit expert but if the book calls for 50 and you only have 10 that could have something to do with it... Hope you get it figured out soon! How did the rest of the pipe laying go? Cheers!
Good pics, neat machine.
there is full flow from tank to 2nd filter, from that filter to pump.....full continuous flow so the pump has no excuse not to work. my dads old chilton book says to measure flow rate on return line.......(good idea), but i figure if it's running on 10 lbs. psi and less there isn't going to be much on the return line. i've made it to the upper hay field, (a little over a quarter mile) and am half done but blew hydralic line last night. it's 120 mile trip to the store (monday) so will go fishing and try new metal detector today.
i've made it a quarter mile (half done) out of the rock now in hard clay, hard pan. blew hydralic line.
The old DD had simple gear pump to supply fuel to the common fuel rail. That pump will wear and not build pressure due to bypassing and on the 6-71's it is a real b***h to remove without a curved double box end wrench
it's been awesome!............( i hate that word) , so... monday i drive 120 miles round trip for a hydralic line and continue the trench with the prospect of hiring an old school buddy to connect the pipe.............time is running out!
am at halfway point in hard clay, blew hydralic line...went fishing!
