rubber mounts getting bad in 1550B. What is really the purpose of these mounts? Ag tractors engines are bolted right to the frame. The rubber mounts let the engine shake side to side which plays hell with the tall exhaust stack. Can you just put washers in place of them and tighten things up or will this cause other problems?
hi if the mounts are gone replace them the engine is a unbalanced engine this is why its rubber mounted your tractors ect will be balanced engines if bolted to chassis good luck
Replace em with new ones. You don't want that engine shaking around. It will rattle your fillings out!
My friends 1550 has exhaust problems too. I can't remember the set-up. A long pipe certainly adds to the problem. Metal also gets fatigued and replacement pipe may not be the same quality, or a muffler may be heavier than the original. When Case came out with the 580C, the engine was mounted in rubber. Much nicer than the older B model. Vibration in the cab helps lead to operator fatigue. Lee has a good point and has touched on an interesting topic, engine balancing. I believe the in-line 4 cylinder diesel creates longitudinal vibration by design. Balance shafts seem to be the only solution used by some manufacturers in rigid frame applications. Best to replace the mounts, likely you will notice a big difference. Even if they appear intact, the rubber may harden over time. Phil
