JD 755B transmission filter replacement

jkflatt · 2020-12-12 14:25

Trying to service my 755B track loader and the transmission filter cover which is located just under the fuel tank prevents the filter cover from being removed as there is not enough clearance. I assume it will require the removal of the fuel tank or at lease take loose and slide backwards to get clearance. Anyone know if this is the correct way to access this and any tips to get this done? Thank you!

I wouldn't think you'd have to remove the fuel tank to change a filter. Maybe it's accessed from under the seat?

The fuel tank is completely over it.

i can access it from the back and can loosen the cover, but it won’t lift up over the internal filter due to the fuel tank.

Lift the filter with the cover.

I assumed from the parts diagram the filter is held in place and wouldn’t lift out with the cover. Did I assume wrong? Thanks for replying,!

I was wondering how this one was going to turn out. the diagram clearly shows the filter is attached to the cover. If it came apart so the filter is separate from the cover, you might need to lift the filter free with a putty knife to get everything to clear. Looks like it will take some creative twisting to get that to clear. Clean everything first.

Ok. I overlooked how it fastens to the top of the cover. Mine is loose from the cover, I’ll try prying the filter up with the cover to see if it will clear. Thanks for helping me.

That's the biggest problem with cartridge style filters, somebody can put them on wrong and you'll never know it. If a canister filter gets put on wrong, you'll see it leaking.

It is not attached to the cover. The operator's manual states to tilt the filter housing away from you and with your "other hand" hold the element in the housing and remove both together.

The first 755's had both spin on hydrostat filters behind a cover on the side and very easy to access. Seems they took a step backwards on the B's? Looks like it would be very easy to get dirt in the housing.

Thanks MG2361. That’s what it took. An operators manual would come in handy beforehand. Thanks again for all the replies! Got er done!
