JLG 60H – Drive wheels STOP when turn switch is used

BCSC ยท 2017-04-25 11:20

Hello all, I have no experience with this type of equipment. Im all automotive and aviation. We have a JLG 60H man lift that sat for a while. When moving the Lift and attempting to use the turn switch, it abruptly stops the 2WD wheels, resulting in a rather jarring experience. There may be an issue with the engine not throttling up as well, according to the owner, maybe related, not sure. I could use any assistance, as Im out of my field here. Looks like the 3 lever controllers have been replaced previously (as they say replacement on them!) but seem to work ok. I tried wiggling the platform connectors to see if it was just corrosion or a bad connection somewhere, no avail, yet. Hope this can be resolved! Thanks

Hello, I just noticed this thread now. Two possibilities here. Either the engine idle speed is so low that the addition strain of the steering system kills the engine (governor problem). The engine should throttle up when the drive stick is actuated. Ford 4 cyl. gas engine? They need lots of warm up time before trying to use them. Or, something in the steer circuit is sucking up all the voltage. Attach a volt meter to the basket ignition switch terminal and watch what the voltage does as you activate the steer.

Hello Off Thanks for the reply. We go this fixed last week, but I wanted to update you and all. You were correct on all 3 counts Ford gas 4 cyl refit, and yes it take a couple minutes to get get warmed up enough to handle a load. More importantly, the master switch had started to cook inside, that was the issue with the hi current drop. That, coupled with the governor calibration issue presented the issue. So with a new switch, some cleaned up grounds for fun, and re-calibrating the gov now has this unit working well! The folks that installed the engine hacked the EEC-IV ECU wiring badly, its basically running on the CTS and TPS, no MAP sensor yet, so it runs a bit rich but not to bad when warm, which the power band of the engine rather enjoys, but getting this aspect repaired is right up my alley. Thank you again for the response. It would have provided the path to repair, so you get thumbs up from me Good Job! [Edited for typos]

Glad to hear you solved your puzzle BSCS. I've got a fair amount of 60H documentation and 2 sets of manuals if you run into problems again. I maintained 2 of them from brand new to their end.
