John Deere 250d articulating truck

Just curious to see anyone's opinions on this specific unit, I have found one locally and depending on the price, may consider it for our operation here on the farm. It's a 2008, 6,500 hours, paint is not good at all, was used to haul salt it appears. Other then the paint it appears to be a solid unit. Any common problems, flaws, to know? Also side note what would it cost roughly to get repainted? Will need quite a bit of blasting.

Was this truck used in an underground mine, to haul salt? If it was, run away as fast as you can. Never buy any machine that has been used in a salt mine. Jeff

No underground salt mines here, only thing it could've was potash salt, what adverse effects could it have on a machine other then cosmetics?

if the electrical components are not sealed from the salt dust, any contact point/ plug etc will have corrosion, you will be chasing you tail for years with electrical gremlins.

Well, it sold at auction for twice the amount i was willing to pay, they basically paid the price for one down in the states. But needing some serious cosmetic, i went and looked at it, it appeared to be a solid machine, just needed a blasting and painting. Total it sold for was $59,000.

Good thing you did not get it. Potash salt is just as corrosive as regular salt. I know that any piece of machinery used in an underground salt mine, will disintegrate into a pile of rust once it is brought to the surface. The salt penetrates into the core of the metal and the equipment will rust from the indise out. Jeff
