John Deere 329D left drive issue. Manual controls

Jake8474 · 2024-10-09 22:15

Was using machine on job noticed a leak ok the right track. Rock Broke 2 speed line. Replaced line. Topped off with fluid. Immediately after noticed the right side seemed a little bit faster especially in 2 speed. Didn’t think much of it right away as it wasn’t that much different side to side. After about 1.5 hours off use almost felt like the left track was skipping. Only would do this in forward. Now machine left side forward sort of jumps and will sometimes move with out an issue but definitely not useable. Reverse on both sides are fine. Any ideas? Could it have anything to do with replacing right 2 speed line? Left side was never weak prior.

So, basically no drive left forward? Left reverse, right forward and right reverse OK?

Yes basically. Left forward will work sometimes in low.

I don't know what could have caused that issue from a 2 speed hose repair other than dirt entry. For that specific complaint, being intermittent, I would be looking at the fittings going into the servo caps on the pump closest to the engine. They are orificed fittings. If debris gets into them, they can cause loss or diminished drive in one side one direction.

the machine is manual controls doesn’t have any servos?

The linkage is attached to a lever. That lever sends charge oil to the servo.

Oh ok great information to hear. So remove fittings and clean?

Yes. Make sure the orifice holes are clean and unrestricted.

removed both on the rear of the pump. Clean with no debris. Cleaned and reinstalled. Next step?

My guess would be the operation valve that your left side linkage hooks up to. It could have some type of blockage there internally.

Ok would that require removing the pump to inspect? Odd that never had an issue until changing right side line?

No, the displacement valve should unbolt off the top of the pump. You probably got some dirt in the line when you changed the hose.

Removed left track to inspect lines all look good. Ran machine with track off to see how it acts. Will go fine full in reverse. If you go directly from reverse to forward will go forward then click 2 speed and will just kind of dead head

    Remove this valve and inspect?

That is what I would do. Just be careful taking it apart and don't lose any small parts. You might see if MG is on board with that as he is the expert here.

Ok haha. Would it simply be remove the bolts and come off. It doesn’t want to lift off just wants to rotate when tapped. Deere doesn’t seem to have any parts brakes downs for the pump

Or will the linkage arm need removed also

got it removed. Saved the gasket luckily. Inspected and found no debris. Cleaned and reinstalled. Issue is still present. Next step?

Sprocket stops and you hear the engine lug down as in going over a relief valve?

  19. #19Jake84742024-10-12 08:31

I guess so. If you click the 2speed while it’s moving in low it will stop the sprocket and sounds like it’s hitting a relief not really bogging the engine down. Then if your in 2 speed and go to forward or backward from neutral position. Won’t make any hydraulic sound or do anything. Also noticed now with the track off that the sprocket has a slight creep even with the linkage unhooked to the pump and it’s in the neutral position.

That sounds like the servo piston isn't centering. It could also be a failure of a mechanical link in the servo system.
