I HAVE A 624K THAT GOES THRU STARTERS LIKE CRAZY. THE STATER MOTOR SPINS BUT BENDIX WONT ENGAGE. CHANGE STATER WORKS FOR A FEW MONTHS THEN THE SAME ISSUE. THE BOSS WANTED THE FLYWHEEL CHECKED AND OR CHANGED, FLYWHEEL LOOKS OK. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE HELPFUL. NEW STARTER NEW BATTERIES
Please post a machine serial number when starting a thread. It will help with information gathering. Where are you getting your starters? Dealer, aftermarket, new, reman? Also, please don't use CAPS Lock when typing. We don't like being yelled at . We're sensitive .....NOT!
Ok sorry for the heads up serial-1DW624KPEBD641622 Starters are all john deere reman.
Did you check the flywheel teeth ALL the way around?....360 Degrees?
Yes in fact it was changed even though it looked fine.
Have you examined the failed starters to see why they're not engaging? A typical starter engages the gear with the direct action of the solenoid, so either that linkage is damaged, the gear is loose on the shaft, or the starter or ring gear are so messed up that they won't engage. The damage should be evident if you know where to look, and what it looks like.
Can you provide us a part number for the starters you are using?
i have not disassembled any of the starters personally as they are sent for core, externally they are fine as far as the starter gear and the ring gear both look fine.
john deere se501406
At least bench test them, then see if the gear is solid or loose from the rest of the bendix.
I was instructed to replace the flywheel , starter as well as all battery cables
Then it's not your problem I guess?
How many hours are they lasting? Some time ago I replaced a starter on a 644K and the price had increased substantially but if I remember right Deere had also increased their warranty time to 2 years on reman starters. It doesn't change your problem but at least you should not be paying for a new starter every time.
Have you ever at any time heard a whine like starter is staying engaged after engine starts?
