John Deere 650H- steering to left

lilpalmer4 · 2023-09-17 14:33

We have a 2002 John Deere 650H with joystick controls. A couple of weeks ago the dozer was darting left and right uncontrollably. We took it to our local mechanic and he replaced the rollers and rear sprocket on each side due to wear and tear. The mechanic thought the worn out rollers were what was causing the dozer to jerk left and right constantly. Now we got it back from the shop and it ran fine for about 30 minutes, but is now jerking to the left when trying to go straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you familiar with the transmission control unit and how to access service codes?

Wrong. You should be able to see fault codes on the TCU if they aren't coming up on the monitor. Remove the plastic cover to the left of the operator's seat right there on top. The TCU will be right there.......run and record any faults.........I'm betting steer sensors or wiring.

After you remove cover there may be a layer of dust on top of controller especially if open ROPS. Wipe off dust and you will see 4 buttons Menu, select, next and back i believe. Have pencil and paper and write down codes. Key on push menu button until code appears in window. Push select and first code should appear. Keep pushing next to scroll through all codes. Please post codes for us to help you with diagnostics. I will check back on forum latter tonight. Vetech63 may be online to help also.

    The 2 error codes: F382 F351

Most likely F382 code is the main problem with your 650H. It indicates a problem with the right track motor speed sensor. I suspect the controller is seeing zero rpm and speeding up the right track to try to prevent mis tracking. You can check the motor RPM in the controller push menu button until you diag in window push select push next until you see right motor spd move machine very slowly and watch rpm i suspect it will read zero you can compare to left motor also. You may have to warm unit you until it starts acting up to perform this test. Please post results.

Actually, Deere's controllers will slow the fast track to try to maintain tracking. So, if the right speed sensor/wiring has an issue that the controller sees the speed as being slower than the left track, then the left track slows/stops to match it.

After replacing the Right track motor speed sensor, the problem has been resolved. Thank you all for your help and feedback!
