Good Afternoon and thanks up front for the input and help. I have a JD 70d Midi -Excavator that was my father-in-laws that will only rotate 180 degrees. This is a relatively new (week or less) issue. I ran the unit with a perspective buyer about a week ago and it rotated without issues 360 degree in both directions. Two days ago my brother-in -law went to use it and now it will only rotate 180 - degrees. I have not had the opportunity to run it yet – should be able to in the next day or so. What they are describing is a soft stop not a hard stop like an obstruction. I don’t know if its always the same 180 degrees that it will rotate of not – for example if you rotate it until it stops and then shut it off and let it sit can you now rotate beyond where it stopped you initially. Biggest difference between when it worked and when it stopped working is its significantly colder out. He did let it run for about 45 minutes before using it and then ran it for another 30 with no improvement. Says the oil level is good. Wondering if we could have water/ice in the filters and if that might cause this. Any thoughts / suggestions would be great! Thanks Chris Model # CK070D Serial # S009372 Year – 1989 – we think
I don't know this machine but does it have a manually engaged swing lock for transport purposes
Good day Suggest you check the swing transmission for lube, if you can take a look into the final drive. A pressure check can also be good information. Kind regards Uffex
Or you could put the machine in a heated shop and drain the water out of the swing gear. Bob
Bob was spot on - Went to the local JD dealer for some filters and got in to a conversation with the Parts guy and he suggested the same thing Ice in the swing gear. Warmed it up and drained it out and works good now. Looks like the rubber boot over the swing motor is letting a little water in . Thanks all Chris
