Looking for info on this particular loader. Internet has very little info. Looking to buy a low hours unit with engine issues. Runs and drives but according to seller needs 1 head gasket done on V8 diesel. He did one side and it was better but still needs other side for a pressure issue with cooling system. Any other things to watch? I did find on the Ag forums that the motor used in these was not the greatest in a tractor but in a loader was ok. Any info would be appreciated.
No one with any experience good or bad with this model?
Deere's V8 diesel was a major problem child. Seems like I recall most of these loaders were repowered.
What was the proper engine used to repower? I have a newer 6081 spare for my excavator. Saw some farmboys in Montana on youtube repower one with 8.3 Cummins. Major flywheel machining was biggest issue.
I've seen pictures of several that had 8V71 Detroits in them. I also saw a 992 excavator that came with the V8 and it had been repowered with a Mack. Anything is possible
Anyone familiar with these engines issues. Runs good but has pressure issues. Going to do other head gasket and see how it goes. Were these heads prone to issues like cracking? Might send head for testing while off. The other issue is no brakes, pedal does nothing except actuate declutch. Cant find a manual even from Deere. Any tips would be appreciated.
Ask/look for engine opinions on the farm sites, they'll have more members with experience or rumors of them. Without a manual you'll have to figure out how your brakes work, by tracking the lines and/or looking up the diagrams on jdparts.com. Or finding a manual for something "close enough". Pics of the brake valve and axle might help.
Replaced other head gasket and pressure issue gone. Bled hydraulics at front axle bleeder and got brakes back. Seems to operate good now but a little big for my needs. Replaced 1 rear u-joint. Deere part was over 700$. Deere parts guy crossed it and found me one from Napa for 200$. Glad to have a great parts guy.
