OK I have a 2003 John Deere 325 . My problem is that the my skid loader has 2000 hours I did change my fuel filters and air filters the skid loader is keep indoors and is very clean .. so now what it is doing it run good at a sit still and throttle up good but under a load moving the skid loader it starts to surging up and down RPMS THE MORE RPMS THE FASTER THE SURGE .Please Help John Deere shop already took me for $300 to LOOK at it played with the governor screw turned it in and out it did get worse but never would get better then before . They say they THINK ITS MECHANICAL BUT THEY STILL DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG OR HOW MUCH IT WILL COST ME AND WANT ME TO BRING IT TO THEM AND THE BILL SHOULDN'T BE NO HIGHER THEN 3K BECAUSE THEY MIGHT HAVE TO PULL THE ENGINE THEY SAID THEY OWN 8 OR 9 JOHN DEERE DEALER SHIPS FOR THE NEXT 100 TO A 150 MILES AROUND ME. But now they want so much $$$ to see if they can find out what is wrong they still do not know. If anyone has dealt with this or knows what it could be I would appreciate the help. how about a picture of the injection pump, or whatever you have on that engine. How long have you had it? how many hours you've put on it? when did the symptoms start? especially when did the symptoms start in relation to changing the fuel filter? First guess is always air in the fuel, usually from trash in the tank, lines, fittings, etc. and/or a cracked fuel line, cracked fitting, overtightened fitting, cracked or incorrectly placed filter or separator seal.

Can't. Internal IFS pumps. That screw that the dealer messed with, that will need to be checked to see if they adjusted it correctly. That adjustment cannot be made without removing the little cover on the front of the timing cover. Did they say that they checked the rack travel? Todd, first thing to check is the fuel pressure. Does the engine maintain 10+ psi? Does it maintain at east 4 psi for 10 minutes+ after shutdown? I would also suggest you put a clear line between the fuel return line and the tank with a vertical loop in it and watch for air. Also, check the fuel vent. See if it will surge with the fuel cap loose. We will start there and progress after we see the results of the above. Is this something that recently started happening?

they did nothing but but move that screw all the way in then all the way out tell it almost fell out not sure where they left it now i know its still in there but thats all he did the hole time for 2 hours of being here thats why it cost me $300 bucks lol i was thinking it was a fuel problems also or electrical but i cleaned up all the plugs and plug and changed line and air and fuel before them in before i called them work on cars and drag race them for fun so i am pretty good with stuff but i AM NOT GOING TO SAY I KNOW **** ABOUT SKID STEERS LOL i will be cleaning the fuel tank when it gets a little nicer out its 10 degrees out today and we just got snow i will also put a new fuel cap on it and clean the air vent and pull the sending unit to make sure the lines are clean i already changed line and filters ill keep you all posted thanks for any help or answers you give me Todd

Just so you know, the fuel tank vent is not part of the fuel cap. That tank has a separate vent.

it has a fuel pump on the side of the engine part # REPLACES PART NUMBERS: RE515953, RE525102, RE532211 with 2 9mm bolts holding it on ... i have put 1500 hours on it and have owned it for 8 years i change the air and fuel as soon as i had a problem's but they where just change less then 50 hours before that.. i fuel it with a fuel can so ill look and clean the tank now and make sure there no blockages in them and clean the air vent and change fuel cap ... i will also check all the camps and separator seal thanks for your help and will keep all in formed as i go we just got 7" of snow and it 10 out side so give me a day or to will be in the 30 or 40 then ill look at it again thanks Todd

so you put roughly 200 hours a year over the last 8 years? and this surging started relatively recently, within 50 hours of replacing the fuel filter, and another new filter didn't change the issue? Follow MG's suggestions as much as you can before digging into the fuel system and possibly making more issues. The fuel pressure and checking for air will confirm or rule out most possibilities.

yes 200 or less a year its used for plowing the snow and and re place gravel as i need it over the years or sand when it get to slippy on the driveway i also use it to move old trees and odd and ends yes every year i clean it change oil replace fuel filter 2 and change air filters 2 and check out any thing i can find every year even if it needs it or not . this year it got its 2nd set of tire since it was new when i get it it was used at a air port for cutting grass and moving plane parts around i have never put the rpms over 2k tell now to see if it would stop Thanks Todd

Ok update i contacted John Deere they sent a person that works for the company for my regional manager he said it had a recall on this matter. something to do with the rack and injectors out of line once it would have been fix there should have been no more problems BUT THIS skid loader never got fix because who ever had it at that time never took it in ... so now John Deere will not fix it or do the recall.. they told me to call the place where i got it from .. so i did ..they told me they sold it to me as is... so now i am screwed over i got the hours when i got it. i have only put less then 600 hours in 3 1/2 years there saying it will cost me around 3k to fix it ..this skid loader only has 2200 hours total on it.. dose any one know what i should do now? my id # *T00325b104191*

The 325 has had several recalls (Deere calls them PIPS) for injection pump issues. Only one dealt with the issue of engine surge. The PIP, depending on serial number, would have been new injection pump springs, new hold down bolts and torque spec and, injection pump timing, or, complete pumps, which addressed everything. That program expired back in 2008, so no, Deere will not help you. Another thing that matters is the synchronization of the pumps when installed. If they are not spot on, then a rapid fire hunt could occur. Only technicians who are very well versed in that procedure should be doing those pumps. Unfortunately, for you, if you want it addressed, then your out some coin. But before you pull the trigger on such a repair (engine does not to come out for this repair, by the way), eliminate all the simple stuff first. Make sure that fuel pressure is as I stated in post #3. And, make sure there is no air intrusion into the fuel system (again, post #3).

yes it has 10 psi and i replaced the fuel line and replaced the prime pump and the fuel lift pump and air filters and fuel filters it looks like ill have to see what that they say now i maybe selling it .. it was a big hit for this John Deere
