i was wondering why a 100e international track loader thought to be a 78 would have mechanical track adjusters. its my first machine trying to learn about it. any knowledge would be appreciated.

I don't know a lot about the International. I have a 1978 Cat D4E dozer and a 1978 Cat 951C track loader and they both have the hydraulic grease fitting to adjust the tracks. Congrats on the first machine. I am fairly new around here myself. You can read about my experience here on the track loader forum and on the dozer forum. There is a lot of knowledge available on this forum for the asking. I hope you have lots of big wrenches and don't mind dirt under the fingernails. How about some pictures of your new ride?

GH Look on the idler yoke for a cover with 2 bolts ,remove cover and there are grease fittings to adjust tracks. Bob

idler yoke the idler yoke has threads on the shaft, with a nut where it forks off and attached to the front idler. there is a small plate on the fork where it attaches to the idler. Does' this sound like a mechanical adjuster?

She's a looker. The next panel back should have your adjuster in it.
