3 more things and I promise I'll quit bugging y'all(for a little while) 1988 2400 hrs I am doing the 2,000 hour maintenance on this machine I just bought. I am almost done but I am not sure on the below. There is nothing in the book explaining how to do these. They are just listed as a 2,000 hour item. ------- 1) Change the grease in the water pump Does this really need to be done? How do you do it? 2)Drain water from swing gear. Where and how? 3) Check valve clearance. Does this need to be done even if the motor starts good , sounds good, and does not smoke except when it should blow a little black? What are the specifications on this? 4) Check injector timing. Same situation as question #3 ------- Thanks, Greg
Just a quick note on checking valve clearance. This is something that a lot of people over look and I have seen machines with twice the valve clearance that is recommended with no obvious noises, trouble is, damage IS being done. It is not a real big job and well worth doing. For some reason on my Case 455C you can feel the difference in engine smoothness even though you may only adjust the clearances a couple of thou and there is no tappet noise beforehand. If you just got the machine, I would also check the timing. Once set it should stay that way, but at least you will know whether it is right or not now.
hi, if you can please include your serial number of your machine and engine make i can make time to look into the info you have requested. such as the engine valve adjustment procedure. as far as the water pump, some kobelcos have a greasable water pump bearing. this uses a Esso Unirex N2 grease. add one shot every 500 hours. in regards to the slewing sump, once a year it is recommended to drain off any water and add grease. underneath the machine center up inside the center hole (remove under belly pan) is a rectangular drain plate. remove plate and boom down to angle draing off center slew. on the top side is an oval plate. generally located between the battery box and/or lift cylinders. remove the plate and inspect how much grease is present. the grease is to be added between the gear teeth and should rise approx. 1/3 the way up the tooth from the bottom. approx 4-5 teeth are visual, add grease and rotate upper to expose 4-5 more, continue until turned 360 degrees. grease to use is a Moly EP2. other notes - e/g oil and filter change - fuel filter change * if present (Mitsubishi's & Isuzu's) remove & clean 1 - 2 inline fuel filter screens. replace if missing or damaged. one located inside fuel banjo bolt adhering the inlet fuel hose unto the fuel lift pump. the other at the inlet side of the fuel water/sediment seperator filter assy. again inside of the fuel banjo bolt. pinch hose, remove bolt and unscrew nylon mesh filter - hyd return filter * hyd pilot filter (unless cleanable) * some current mark 8, fpt (Iveco) engines SK260/SK295 replace the engine air breather filter -obviously both the Outer & Inner air filters may require replacing more frequently depending on machine working conditions -> All above is recommended to be done every 500 hours Hyd oil recommended to be changed and hyd tank cleaned every 2,000 - 2,500 hours. plus the less remembered, hyd tank air breather filter -> replace twice a year for it plays a big part in the hyd system filtration and will ensure a greater life expectancy out of your hyd pump. hyd oil - use a HVI (high viscosity index) mobile hyd oil not an Indoor hyd oil, find generally used for it is cheaper to purchase. however, hyd pump and motor repairs in the long run are more costly! ie; Shell Tellus T 32 or 46 Texaco Rando HDZ 32 or 46 Esso Univis N 32 or 46 Petro-Canada Hydrex MV 36 or colder climates Hydrex XV 36 more can be provided, etc... gear oils in gear reduction recommended to be changed every 1,000 hours. Swing & Travel gear reductions -> 80W-90 note some current kobelco models now have added a lower greasable bearing too change e/g coolant 2,000 - 2,500 hours Antifreeze -> CNH XHD coolant for ensuring less fuel system issues it is best to drain off any water or sediment build-up from the bottom of your fuel tank at least once a week. fill up the fuel tank each night to prevent condensation. also, since the offroad coloured diesel fuel is being delivered dryer than in past - has less and less koresene should add with each tank fill-up a fuel lubricity. ie; STANADYNE, LUBRICITY FORMULA, SUMMER USE (Purple) PART# 38560C STANADYNE, PERFORMANCE, WINTER USE (Blue) PART# 38565C also helps lower the freezing point and prevent gel up.
HVI mobile hyd oils (high viscosity index) yes costs more, but special polymers are used during the oil refining process bonded at the molecular level allows the hyd oil to maintain its' viscosity over a much broader operating temperature range in other words, the oil would not be like water when hot or like molasses when cold ensuring better lubrication of moving hyd components increasing the life expectancy of the components. also, an added benefit is will also reduce fuel consumption and allow for easier engine starts etc...
Mr. Kobelco & thebaz, SK60LC - Serial # LEJ-0481 Isuzu motor # 4JB1(I hope this is correct- I can barely see it) The specs and procedure for setting the valves would be great. Is checking the timing something I could do? (Reckon it is anything like setting the timing on a 135 or 165 Massey Ferguson farm tractor?) Do you have specs and proceedures for that also? A local oil dealership got the Shell Tellus T 32 for me- good to see you confirm that. Thanks, Greg
